Client Conversations: meet Brendon

This post is is the fourth in my new client conversations series. I’m lucky enough to train really diverse and interesting folk with all kinds of training goals, ambitions, professional backgrounds and life experiences. I’ll regularly feature an interview with a client on my blog, so you can get to know them! Meet Brendon, AKA Bravebot, AKA Quesom, a comic book store owner who has been training with me for three months.

You in 25 words or less

I am a passionate person with lots of energy, some say too much energy. I’m a loving husband, proud new dad, Ice Hockey player/mascot, comic book fanatic and Capoeirista.

What’s on your playlist right now?

Primus and the chocolate factory

Faith no More: Sol Invictus

Beatles: Love Cirque du soleil Soundtrack

Redman: What? Thee (My baby son loves Redman????? Go figure)

Boa Voz

Why did you decide to start training with me?

Because you’re so handsome Simon! Hahahahahahaha! Seriously, after knowing you and training Capoeira with you for so many years, I knew I could draw on your knowledge of various disciplines and nutrition to help me improve my overall health and compliment my other training. I also wanted someone who could push me but have a laugh as well and you were that guy.

What are your big picture training goals?

As I get older I would like to maintain but also continue to improve my fitness and stamina. I want to achieve a healthy weight and endurance for playing hockey, Capoeira and the hours I spend jumping around like a lunatic in a foam robot suit at the CBR Brave home games.

Who inspires you?

My wife and son really inspire me to get and stay healthy. My first Capoeira teacher, Professor Jensen and you (Simon) inspire me and push me to play better capoeira. My Hockey coach Tom and CBR hockey player Dave Lewis inspire me to play ice hockey and not let the fact I’m getting older get in the way.

What advice would you give to someone who is thinking about getting into training?

There are so many great ways to train and stay healthy, find something you love and you WANT to do. Try new things, experiment, set some goals and start achieving them. If you enjoy what you are doing it’s not work, and if you smile, you jump higher!
